Recap & Nightlife Tonight

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

Monday night at Butter: Apple Taboo, Ammo Poet and Will.I.Am from the Black Eyed Peas were there. Sadly, we didn’t hear of any Fergie. I was hosting Monday night at Marquee which is a celebrity night. The Monday party is good and a lot of celebrities have shown up. Three Mondays ago John Legend performed live and Rihanna was there. The Monday after it was the album release party for Wale, Serena Williams and model Selita Ebanks attended. And this Monday was athlete central with a late night pop from some of the Black Eyed Peas members who were at Butter earlier. I actually grabbed photos with Vince Young and also with the 2nd best defensive player in NBA history, Dikembe Motumba. It was Chris Baker’s birthday party who is a defensive lineman for the Denver Broncos. Sadly, I didn’t get a photo with him. But he seemed to have a blast.

Thursday night (tonight!) at M2 is the after party for the VICTORIA SECRET FASHION SHOW. Sadly, it is a private event. So all you perverted guys out there that think you can get in by paying $30, think again. It’s strictly guestlist, so don’t waste your time.

I am selling tickets for Thanksgiving Eve at STK. A very sexy room so definitely let me know if you want tickets.

Ammo from the Black Eyed Peas was supposed to be DJing at SL Wednesday (it’s a maybe). But he for sure is DJing at Juliet tonight (Thursday).

My very good friend Nate Everson is selling all the best mixes you hear at nightclubs on his website Loudmusic.weebly.com . If you want you can call /text 646-226-9928 to contact him. Amazing. And anyone who needs help finding apartments definitely let me know as I have a few friends working in the real estate industry. Hope everyone’s going out tonight!

Wale, Jude Law & Your Full Nightlife Round-Up

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Monday night at Marquee was sizzling hot with madness and celebrities. Ahmad and J Rosenblum are throwing huge events there. Last night was the official album release party for Wale (who sings that song ‘chillin’ with Lady GaGa). The celebs I saw:

Wale
Selita Ebanks (Victoria Secret Model)
Dwight Freeney (defensive Colts player)
Serena Williams (if you don’t know who she is, can’t help you:)
Barack Obama (haha just kidding, wish he was there though so I could get his autograph)
Mark Ronson (famous DJ)

The door was packed, the line long, and tons of beautiful women inside. Then celebs celebs celebs. I’m going to work on figuring out the names of American football and basketball players because it would make this all more interesting. I discovered Dwight Freeney, one of the best defensive football players in the NFL, was seated next to me at the end of the night. It was cool chit-chatting with him. When I asked him what he did, he had to tell me he played for the Colts. I had no idea!

I don’t want to elaborate too much on the number of bottles brought out by the waitresses that night but let’s just say there were a lot and they were large.

wale-big-bottle

My goal is to try and do more celebrity events and find my niche promotion – ideally a mixture between a filler promoter and bringing out pretty girls. Any celebrity events you guys hear about, let me know.

Ron Brownz, the guy who sings “gimme 20$” and “pop champagne” and some other good rap songs, will be at La Pomme Wednesday. Come and let me know if you’re attending. Some other celebrity parties are in the works. Give me time. My goal’s to make it happen Monday through Wednesday celebrity parties and Thursday through Sunday some nice, higher-end venues.

Sunday night at 1Oak it was supposed to be the movie premiere after party for a film called “The Messenger.” Woody Harrelson was supposed to be in attendance, but I didn’t see him. There were billboards set up but the celebs were a no show. In the beginning, I was worried that this Sunday party would turn out to be a failure, but the crowd is slowly but surely getting better and better each time (I am making it sound like the crowd isn’t good but it really is, but just not up to the real 1Oak’s par as of yet. However, huge progress girls/guys told me). Had a blast!

Sunday Jude Law was at Tenjune, ladies. Now don’t you wish you didn’t stay in to cuddle with your boyfriend on the couch?! Hehe. I went to Tenjune late night to speak with a business associate, and the ceilings of Tenjune had white drapes and hanging chandeliers. It looked stupendous, but I don’t know how long they plan to keep the decorations for…

Club Closings & Birthdays at 1Oak

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

So Tuesday late night at Marquee a wealthy gentleman came through and bought HEAVY amounts of alcohol. Then he was throwing large stacks of dollar bills in the air. Oh, geez. I only WISH I had a camera to see this great moment and what ensued - people squatting and attempting to grab up the $1 bills. It must be great to live the good life and be royalty in Dubai.

Guess which high-end night club has shut down?

No, not Greenhouse my friends. The owners of the closing locale are my buddies and asked me not to mention it so we have to do this game style. You guess and I’ll tell you yes or no!

Wednesday night at Kiss & Fly was not the same as the Wednesday before because the Knicks players were sadly not around. Moving on to the good stuff….Wednesday at 1Oak was a legendary night because it was one of the owner’s birthday. Scott. Good-looking guy, always there hanging out. He seems like a very easy-going, casual guy that would be good to chill out and people-watch with. I didn’t even see him that night but am sure he had a blast. I swear, I had never seen so many good looking women at 1Oak in my life. After last night, I have to say Brazil has the best-looking brunettes in the world. I met a few last night and they could barely speak English, but I just hung onto every word they said just to look at them for a few extra seconds. This is what a loser I am.

Took this photo of the bar.

Friday Night Round-Up

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Heard Simyone (or now commonly known as “SL”) on Friday was packed with models…and not just normal ones “pretty ones.” Apparently, bringing models just isn’t enough. Managers can complain that models aren’t pretty enough to be at a certain table. Then promoters compete and trash talk saying “Yeah man, he only brings out ugly models. They aren’t even hot.”

Crazy, right?

I thought a model is the ideal model of a human being that a promoter should want to bring out, but this was brought to my attention some weeks ago when I heard “model promoters” arguing about whether certain promoters should be working at certain venues. What is this world coming to?

1Oak Friday night was also good. A lot of pretty women, packed, just what owners Richie and Scott and Ronnie would want. The NYPD were outside chatting with Richie Akiva. The doorman Binn was hanging out inside, so the door was jam packed for a bit and of course security had to do their job and ensure that no one stood in front the club. All the “VIP girls” actually had to wait, and they were getting frustrated.

Is Butter now open more days as a nightclub? I’ve been hearing about people having birthdays there and the venue operating as a nightclub on nights other than Monday. For those of you who don’t know, Butter is the longest running nightclub in NYC - ten years. It’s owned by the 1Oak boys and has been the best Monday night party for years.

Outside Avenue, I felt neglected by the doorman. This time it wasn’t Wass because Wass runs the door at Marquee Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. Apparently, I’m not in whatever way attractive enough for this specific doorman because I never get in when he runs the door. When it’s Wass, it’s all good surprisingly, even though we have our differences on Saturday nights. My advice? Look sharp, carry female eye candy.

The Week in Recap: NBA & Baseball Players, Wale & Shaggy Live Performances

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Let’s kick it off talking about last week. Thursday. NBA hosted an event in Chinatown on Bowery. It was for a new video game coming out by 2K sports, NBA 2k10. Donnie Klang from Making the Band was there interviewing people and asking questions. Wale did a live performance which you can see here:

I started working at Tenjune on Thursdays. Adam Spoont asked me to, and honestly I love it. Unlimited bottles of champagne and vodka…however it’s still a tough door. There was basically a cap on the number of guys I could get in, even if each of the guys came with six girls. They just didn’t care.

I’d like to officially state that Friday at Johnny Utah’s is a fun party. Craig on the microphone, decent promoters, a good filler crowd to laugh, dance and ride the bull. Some birthday parties came through too. Definitely a good time. I wish I could say the same for the Monday pregame Johnny Utah party. It used to be phenomenal, but due to two months of a lull period, the energy died. Maybe the incoming fall college class isn’t aware of its presence. They should be warned. I’m going to work on this, don’t worry.

JayZ was at M2 Friday night holding it down, then he hit 1Oak afterwards

Saturday night a new party started and has been in existence for two weeks. A venue called Roam (19th street btw 5th and Broadway). It is run by Mike Kanevsky and Jay Putera from Climax VIP. I heard it is a good party to check out, however for now I still love Marquee Saturdays…for all you haters out there on Marquee.

Sunday night at Tenjune some of the Royals Baseball players came through. A friend of a friend knew a guy who used to assist in the management of the team, and some of the players wanted to experience NYC nightlife. About seven of them came out and had a great time. They ended up buying 4/5 bottles and dancing up all over the place. Outside Tenjune Sunday night, there was a huge film crew with large trucks for actors to change. The whole Hollywood scene was going on in the streets of meatpacking at 4 am in the morning. I found out it was all for the movie “Wall Street 2” which will star Mike Douglas (again).

Sunday night, Jim Jones was at Suzie Wong. Not that many of you would have liked to be there, but that’s just an FYI.

Monday night, Common had a huge performance at Marquee as an after party for a concert he did yesterday. Estelle and Busta Rhymes were also there. I got there late night at like 3am. Busta was saying goodbye to all his friends and was escorted out with a bodyguard to a mayback motor vehicle. Quite a nice and large car that is!

I noticed that Wass is now at Marquee Mondays and he doesn’t get to work at the higher end Avenue, which is also open on Mondays (he used to run the door there on Mondays.) I imagine that pisses him off. Earlier on Monday, I went to Avenue and some Giants players were there (they were also at Tenjune the night before, Sunday). Not being an avid follower of these sports, I didn’t know their names but heard the DJ giving shout outs, so it was obvious. Brody Jener was also at Avenue Monday

Kiss and Fly was also open on Monday, which is very unexpected. Now so many new spots are opening up Mondays it will be more and more difficult for people to attract people to a certain venue on any given night. I don’t think Kiss and Fly will be open permanently on Monday…it was a one-off event, but the guys that were running it (Alex and Leo) said if it does well, they may try to continue it.

Legendary performances by MR VEGAS and SHAGGY at Greenhouse on Monday. Check out the footage and pics here at the Troy Report.

Pink Elephant Loses Its Name & Celebrity Sightings

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Pink Elephant was apparently off the chain last night - a long line up of celebs there for Sean Pecas’ birthday (he works for Def Jam and is close with JayZ and Fabulous). Other celebs included Mariah Carey, Clive Owen, Fabulous, Rick Ross, Nick Cannon, and a few more. I can’t even imagine how packed the door got. DMX was actually rejected from entry because he showed up with 15 guys.

While I am on this topic, I’d like to explain to you all what happened to Pink Elephant and why it is no longer called Pink Elephant. Pink Elephant is owned by Rocco Ancarola and Robert Montwaid. They had some financial issues and sold the venue Pink Elephant on 27th street to the M2 guys, but didn’t sell the brand. They own “Pink Elephant” – this nightclub has numerous franchises in London and Brazil and other countries. Robert felt the Pink Elephant standard and quality was falling. He wanted to either do something about it (which they didn’t allow) or pullout. He did pullout as you can see (last Friday was the last Pink party. Now, I think it is called Club Kings). Rocco, however, stayed. It’s quite sad because I always found Pink Elephant to have gorgeous women and a good vibe, even on a slow day. Don’t get me wrong…the club is still there, but not with its two, original united leaders working together. I believe Robert is intending to take over Room Service’s space.

At Marquee, Wednesday night there was an unexpected celeb: Ja Rule. Not a huge celeb, but hey, I’m sure some girls around the world would run for his autograph, right? And congrats to Marquee for still being able to bring celebs in. On Monday, the Marquee party is run by a good friend of mine named Ahmad Tahoun. He’s going to have the rapper (or artist I should say) by the name of COMMON to be there. Not sure if he is performing or chilling. We shall see.

At Griffin there was troublemaker and party animal LIL JON. He still looks the same: short, wearing sunglasses in the dark, and escorted by guards. A friend told me he was partying it up, and then I spotted him at 1Oak, once again with guards on either side.

Tonight, Thursday, I will be working Tenjune. Anyone interested, can contact me below. And not this Sunday, but the following, 1Oak will be opening their Sunday party for those of you interested in that.

Riding around the city yesterday I snagged a photo of the new wall design outside Mr West nightclub. Who knows what it will be renamed, but apparently it is supposed to be a gay club. By looking at the photo I might be able to believe that.

Celebrity Guests at Tenjune, Marquee, Small Lounges to Check Out & the Hottest Club Right Now

Nightlife

Celebrity Guests at Tenjune, Marquee, Small Lounges to Check Out & the Hottest Club Right Now
So last night (Tuesday), Sean Kingston was supposed to be performing at Tenjune. So don’t lose faith in Tenjune just because of the owner’s new club project Simyone. Tenjune still has some energy left in it.

Marquee was having a much bigger celebrity. I wanted to tell people early on who it was, but the managers said I couldn’t even hint at it. But let’s see, he plays a sport called “basketball,” he’s the best at it and he isn’t retired, he’s black, a rapper references him in songs, the aforementioned rapper was just on the VMA’s a few Sundays ago and did the finale performance. You do the math.

Guesses? Alternatively you can always just find out during the night. I’ll always keep you posted, just follow me on twitter.com/tnkg

Mary J Blidge, Snapped Outside Marquee

Mary J Blidge, Snapped Outside Marquee

Monday night I spotted model Anthony Gallo and Russell Simmons at Butter. Heard they had quite the good time. Richie Akiva (owner of Butter and 1Oak) is supposed to be celebrating his birthday this week. His colleagues are supposedly in charge of the celebration preparations…so keep your eyes and ears open for a legendary party most likely occurring sometime this week at 1Oak.

Meanwhile, I keep hearing about these smaller lounges that have opened and seem to have everyone buzzing. Su Casa, Cantina Latina, Roam and a bunch of others. Anyone who can tell me if they’re worth checking out, please do. People have asked me to work or set up parties at some of these places, but I have never been to any of them except Cantina Latina (which is very nice I might add). I found out that Shim is running Cantina Latina on Mondays and it apparently is a very very good looking venue. This Monday he did around 150 people. Girls were telling me it has that Socialista vibe. For those of you who don’t know, Socialista was a very exclusive yet different kind of party. Anyway, Shim is partners on 4K Entertainment. They do very good business.

A little information on the hot spot or most exclusive club in NYC right now…well, it’s called Avenue. They run the room differently there. Friends of mine tried to make reservations and were denied. Avenue doesn’t care HOW much money you are willing to spend (to a certain extent). They care more about WHOSE money they are receiving. For example, a gentleman I mentioned before by the name of Jho Lao (anyone correct me on spelling if I am wrong) within two weeks or so spent about 1 million in NYC nightlife. Avenue was one of the clubs he spent in, alongside Kiss and Fly and The Griffin.

Side notes: 1Oak will be running a new party on Sundays as Tenjune has been doing. A good friend of mine named Jimmy will be running the door. Opening night is Sunday Oct 4th

More Than a Game

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

So last night, Tuesday, turned out pretty sick, mainly because I got some video footage of LeBron James (the guest I couldn’t dish on last night) entering Marquee red carpet style. Mary J Blige was there as well (photo in previous post). LeBron, well, he’s huge and tall. He arrived at 12:30am with an entourage and answered one or two quick questions from reporters that had been camped outside for hours before disappearing into Marquee.

The line outside was pure madness – so long it even inspired me to take video footage.

I felt so sorry for the Marquee bouncers. No one was listening and they were forced to get a little loud and hostile to get people’s attention. Wale and J Cole were also there last night, but everyone famous left soon after they entered. LeBron and his “girl” must have stayed for about 30 minutes (45 max) before leaving for 1Oak where some of my friends said they spotted him later on. Ironically, the crowds showed up at midnight when all the celebs were actually there way before at 9pm. Then there were a few other basket ball players and smaller artists. Everyone just trying to make a living and network, spewing the usual bullshit at the door people making the assumption that they were more important than others and deserved to cut the line. Ah, NYC nightlife. Sometimes I just like to stand outside and observe.

So this whole event was called “More Than a Game.” In additional to being the reason for celebration at Marquee, it’s a documentary that follows NBA superstar LeBron James and four of his talented teammates through the trials and tribulations of high school basketball in Ohio, and James’ subsequent journey to fame.

Later in the night, I attempted to get into Avenue. Wass (the main doorman) sent a security guard to tell me Wass “wouldn’t be able to take care of me tonight.” I nodded and bent the corner for 1Oak. Sometimes it doesn’t always work out and lingering outside the door begging just looks bad (and annoys the doormen). I always say move on to the next venue and have fun. Oh, and don’t always blame the promoter when it doesn’t work out :)
At 1Oak, Binn (their door person) pops out every 5 minutes (just as I would if running the door) to let in his close friends, hot girls, and guys that are ritual Oakers. Once inside, I saw some balloons…maybe it was for Richie Akiva’s birthday? Who knows. It was the usual good vibe at 1Oak. Tall, pretty girls, the drunk guys trying to get their numbers and not succeeding because everyone at 1Oak has a stick up their ass. I will take a look at Simyone again sometime this week and see what I can find out for you.

In regards to La Pomme, some friends have been telling me it has been rocking a very good party while others tell me it is just like the old Ultra before renovations and they can’t stand it.

Guess I still have to see for myself.

In terms of new clubs…in Meatpacking I snagged this pic on Little West 12st and 9 ave. Is a club opening at the old spot called The Inn?

And some fun insider stuff, check out how clubs keep track of which promoter brings the most people. Tally system!

Gone in 60 Seconds

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

When I wrote about my first date with Marquee a few weeks ago, I failed to mention that I returned to the club the very next night. My pride only just got out of rehab.

This time, I was there for another event. I’ll be honest: I don’t even know what the specifics were–only that it had something to do with the empowerment of women in the workplace and that a friend of a friend hooked us up. The crucial detail of the night: for one hour, there was a vodka fueled open-bar.

We arrived promptly at 10:15 p.m. At 10: 30, the bouncer gave me a coy wink as he unhooked the velvet rope to let us in. Or was he reacting to the close proximity of a hair toss from the carefully straightened mane of a supermodel in front of me? Either way, the outcome made me feel a little special. I couldn’t help but feel the promise of this Friday night.

One hour’s worth of free drinks…and my friends and I intended to take advantage of the alcohol. We’d paid $25 to attend the event, so we had to drink more than our money’s worth in order to consider the evening worthwhile. Economically efficiency is always a first priority.

I’d worn a sparkling black and silver headband that everyone just loved. I could tell by the way that people smiled and pointed at me. Enthused, I decided to send a quick text to another friend about plans for later in the evening. It was Friday and I was ready for a late night. But as I opened my phone and attempted to type the text, the vodka reared its ugly head and sucker punched me in the face, sending me spinning. Oh, the spinning.

I didn’t feel buzzed. I didn’t feel drunk. I just felt ill. Horribly ill. And angry.

I recently finished college, a four year program designed to educate an individual about alcohol intake through hands-on experience. Such training should theoretically result in an expanded tolerance and a keen awareness of one’s limits.

But just when I think I’m all grown up and prepared for real life, my world spirals out of control. I tumbled out of Marquee, confused friends in tow. One loyal confidante reentered the club to retrieve my jacket, despite my pleas to, “Leave it! Leave it! It’s nothing to me now!”

As another friend and I waited outside, a guy tried to sell us Ecstasy. Apparently it was obvious to any Tom, Dick, or harried drug dealer that I was in need of a serious pick-me-up.

“I dthon’t dooo druugth!” I told him–the combination of drunk and cold induced a speech impediment best described as delightfully tacky, yet unrefined. It’s not often that one is filled with the essence of a Hooters bar, particularly not in front of Marquee. We needed to go. Immediately.

Just in the nick of time, my courageous friend emerged from the club with my coat in hand. We hailed a cab and were off!

…Until 2 blocks and half an avenue later when I suddenly felt like we’d kicked into Warp drive. As someone prone to motion sickness, particularly car sickness, this high-speed sensation is a personal nightmare of mine. At the red light I told my friends, “I gotta get out of here,” and gracelessly dumped myself onto the pavement.

After an avenue and three blocks on foot, my friends convinced me to get into another cab. This time, I rode in the front seat with my head hanging out the window like a dog.

The next day, after sending out a sad little batch of apologetic text messages, I solemnly vowed never to drink again. For one week. As someone who feels a bit of nostalgia for college, I guess it’s a comfort to know that the lessons continue beyond four years of formal instruction. In this case, I learned that, just as with Mexican food, sex, and grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s after 5:00 p.m., an open bar should be approached with enthusiasm, but also a bit of caution.
