Nightlife Round Up

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Confusion! So I thought Wednesday at Kiss and Fly was the album release party for Robin Thicke, but now I am hearing that it was yesterday at Butter. Also expected at Butter last night was Leighton Meester and Estelle. A pretty sick line up, but I was at Stanton Social before pre-gaming with friends.

Sunday night at 1Oak was also excellent . I snagged a photo with Larenze Tate a very cool, laid back actor. He was in a bunch of movies I used to watch when I was like 15. I haven’t seen him on the screen since, but he was such a down to earth guy. Talib Kweli was at 1Oak DJ-ing. He did an amazing job. Good Sunday party guys! Watch out. Even owner Richie Akiva came to rock out at his own club on a night when it’s run by a different promotional team. I was so happy to see him there. He came to my table, inspected the crowd and I got the opportunity to introduce myself.
Also at 1Oak last night was a famous French actor. Think he was in Ocean’s Eleven and Twelve – that French thief who does acrobatics through the laser fields. His name is Vincent Cassel and he’s here shooting a movie (I asked him, he said no photos sadly). He will be in NYC for a few more weeks so I hope to see him at SL again as I did on Friday. After annoying him enough and being in his presence AGAIN, he may let me snag a shot with him.

I went to pick up my check at Tenjune today and we couldn’t go inside. We had to meet at a diner on the corner because Gossip Girls was being filmed inside the club. Know you girls love that show.

I have been hearing tweets about Provocateur being open tonight? Grand Opening, anyone? Shout outs to David Cohen, THE MAN!!!

Miami is going to be so sick with Lady Gaga performing poolside at the Fontainebleau hotel. I can’t wait! Anyone who wants tickets check my website troymiami.com

And anyone who wants tickets for New Years Eve here in NYC check troynewyears.com

Dec 22 is Mary J Bilge album release party M2. You guys have to admit M2 has been on fire the past two months…celebrities galore! It’s just become that industry celebrity spot for big events.

Contact me ASAP for New Years Eve discounts.

Black Eyed Peas at 1Oak and Weekly Round-Up

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Sunday Amo and Apple from the Black Eyed Peas attended 1Oak. The night started slow. I was beginning to get worried about the Sunday party as the bouncers were always saying the party is the worst night of the week, but after last night it’s the beginning of the end of people talking like that. The venue was packed like a normal 1Oak night by 1 am. Everyone always comes late to 1Oak and solely 1Oak. 1Oak is notorious for getting good late night and it’s natural for it to be dead earlier in the night. So guys, don’t go early.

The DJ was playing Black Eyed Peas’ music and the table they were chilling at was going off the chain. I think they came with a female promoter named Madi because she came outside to get them and then were at her table. I thought Fergie and WILL I AM were there but I was wrong. It was just Amo and Apple. They left the venue with a large group of girls to go and do the groupie after party thing. Imagine they had a blast. Braylon Edwards (the Jets player) was there at 1Oak last night also. He left earlier in the night, I assume because they were not playing enough Hip Hop. Sadly, they don’t play all Hip Hop, they mix in trance.

Sundays Juliet has a party going now. Heard it wasn’t packed but wasn’t empty – just in between. But hey Sunday 1Oak party wasn’t ram packed the first night either, you know? Things take time.

For Thanksgiving Eve I am selling tickets for STK, so anyone interested let me know.

Last Saturday Samantha Ronson (Lindsay Lohan’s ex) was DJing at Quo. Did anyone see Lohan there?
Friday night I heard WILL I AM was at Pacha, but also supposedly at Hudson Terrace also. (They had to perform on SNL, so that’s why they are in town).

Last Thursday, Justin Timberlake’s artist he’s producing called Esmee performed. This was sad. The song is actually really good but it seemed a little inappropriate for the club environment. That night at Tenjune however, was crazy packed. Tenjune Thursdays may not be the models models anymore but it’s still packed with good energy and very good looking crowd (for you EMM haters).

Oh and the scoop on Wednesdays at La Pomme. It was so sexyyyyyyy of a crowd last Wednesday. 1Oak was dead as a result of a lot of the models going to La Pomme last Wednesday. I am friends with most of the 1Oak promoters. Ask them how last Wednesday was…Dead. Sad though that Wednesday party no longer exists 

Black Eyed Peas Tonight and How Posting Videos can Get You Banned from Clubs

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

A few things I forgot to mention in my last post. Last Friday, Real World Road Rules was at Johnny Utah’s and this upcoming Friday at Johnny Utah’s we will have a playboy playmate hosting the event. YEP it’s ON BOYS…

This coming Friday at Roam the woman who sings the song “ma lips like sugaaaa” will be there and yes, performing. That’s also ON!

Tuesday at Tenjune, Ed Westwick was having a blast and Leighton Meester actually performed some song. Random.

Monday and Tuesday I was two nights in a row at Marquee. It’s like my nightly intake keeps me healthy, you know?

Tuesday night isn’t that young of a crowd, more an older, chill group of people looking to have a good time and a get together with close friends. A lot of girls do not respond to my mass texts when I send it out for Marquee on Tuesdays, but it’s actually one of my favorite nights. The only people that end up coming are my close friends and we have a blast. Thank god I get paid a flat rate, right? If it was per head on Tuesday, I would be poor.

Wednesday Black Eyed Peas were at Kiss and Fly and Thursday (tonight) night rumor is they are going to Juliet.

A friend of mine was sadly banned from 1Oak for posting a video he took there of Arod and Derek J. So guys and gals, do not post this stuff to facebook and youtube unless you want to be banned. Just looking out for you, guys. Even I am at risk. Basically, 1Oak wants to protect their celebs, and they have every right. The same goes for Avenue. They dislike it when I write about them, even if it’s good news.

Now for the juicy info on La Pomme. Yesterday, Wednesday, Ron Browz came and performed a few songs. I was worried in the beginning since I was the first promoter there. However, Chris P and Chris S came through later and then to top it off Ellington/Jose/Isaiah came through with all the models. It was amazing. Not too packed with just enough space to move around, and the quality was definitely 1Oak quality. I highly advise you check it out because Wednesday night is apparently the model night.

Jeremiah and Ryan Leslie are also expected in the coming Wednesday parties. I will keep you all posted.

Wale, Jude Law & Your Full Nightlife Round-Up

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Monday night at Marquee was sizzling hot with madness and celebrities. Ahmad and J Rosenblum are throwing huge events there. Last night was the official album release party for Wale (who sings that song ‘chillin’ with Lady GaGa). The celebs I saw:

Wale
Selita Ebanks (Victoria Secret Model)
Dwight Freeney (defensive Colts player)
Serena Williams (if you don’t know who she is, can’t help you:)
Barack Obama (haha just kidding, wish he was there though so I could get his autograph)
Mark Ronson (famous DJ)

The door was packed, the line long, and tons of beautiful women inside. Then celebs celebs celebs. I’m going to work on figuring out the names of American football and basketball players because it would make this all more interesting. I discovered Dwight Freeney, one of the best defensive football players in the NFL, was seated next to me at the end of the night. It was cool chit-chatting with him. When I asked him what he did, he had to tell me he played for the Colts. I had no idea!

I don’t want to elaborate too much on the number of bottles brought out by the waitresses that night but let’s just say there were a lot and they were large.

wale-big-bottle

My goal is to try and do more celebrity events and find my niche promotion – ideally a mixture between a filler promoter and bringing out pretty girls. Any celebrity events you guys hear about, let me know.

Ron Brownz, the guy who sings “gimme 20$” and “pop champagne” and some other good rap songs, will be at La Pomme Wednesday. Come and let me know if you’re attending. Some other celebrity parties are in the works. Give me time. My goal’s to make it happen Monday through Wednesday celebrity parties and Thursday through Sunday some nice, higher-end venues.

Sunday night at 1Oak it was supposed to be the movie premiere after party for a film called “The Messenger.” Woody Harrelson was supposed to be in attendance, but I didn’t see him. There were billboards set up but the celebs were a no show. In the beginning, I was worried that this Sunday party would turn out to be a failure, but the crowd is slowly but surely getting better and better each time (I am making it sound like the crowd isn’t good but it really is, but just not up to the real 1Oak’s par as of yet. However, huge progress girls/guys told me). Had a blast!

Sunday Jude Law was at Tenjune, ladies. Now don’t you wish you didn’t stay in to cuddle with your boyfriend on the couch?! Hehe. I went to Tenjune late night to speak with a business associate, and the ceilings of Tenjune had white drapes and hanging chandeliers. It looked stupendous, but I don’t know how long they plan to keep the decorations for…

John Mayer Birthday at 1Oak, Roam Tonight

Friday, October 16th, 2009

I want to start off talking about 1Oak as it’s the highlight of this post, and last night (Thursday). I brought my Trinidadian friend Adam Pantin out with me since he was in town. I made sure he was well-dressed (khaki pants, dress shoes, and a nice button down-shirt - tucked in). At the door, Binn gave me a negative look. After all that, he told me to tell him to un-tuck his shirt because it looked too dressy.

Balloons were all up on the roof as it was part of the decor for John Mayer’s birthday party. Richie Akiva was on the microphone giving shout outs to all the celebrities there: John Mayer, Usher, Jeremy Pivon (no idea who that is), and Mickey Rourke, all at 1Oak. Packed I tell you, packed it was. A good vibe inside - even the back tables that are shaped like staircases were filled with people. A really great night to hit 1Oak.

Tenjune started off slow, as all clubs have been doing this week. All the promoters trickled in with their crews and the usual walk-up crowd who know Tenjune staff. These folks definitely added good energy to the club. By the end, an excellent party. One thing I would say is that many promoters left the club at 2:30am. This hurt the energetic vibe the room had going for most of the night. For a promoter, it’s hard to say no when your hottest and snobbiest girls want to move on to the next hot spot (sister club of Tenjune: SL) or 1Oak. These promoters are usually being hustled by their own clients to move onwards. They cease to be in charge. They are members of the cattle and the hot women are their shepherds.

Tonight, I will be hosting at a sort of new club called Roam. Some of you probably have been there and hated it. Don’t worry, I’m going to create a different energy in the room tonight. Come check it out if you want and forward me any birthday, bachelorette, or bachelor parties you want organized!

Hope all is well! Have a great weekend!

The Week in Recap: NBA & Baseball Players, Wale & Shaggy Live Performances

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Let’s kick it off talking about last week. Thursday. NBA hosted an event in Chinatown on Bowery. It was for a new video game coming out by 2K sports, NBA 2k10. Donnie Klang from Making the Band was there interviewing people and asking questions. Wale did a live performance which you can see here:

I started working at Tenjune on Thursdays. Adam Spoont asked me to, and honestly I love it. Unlimited bottles of champagne and vodka…however it’s still a tough door. There was basically a cap on the number of guys I could get in, even if each of the guys came with six girls. They just didn’t care.

I’d like to officially state that Friday at Johnny Utah’s is a fun party. Craig on the microphone, decent promoters, a good filler crowd to laugh, dance and ride the bull. Some birthday parties came through too. Definitely a good time. I wish I could say the same for the Monday pregame Johnny Utah party. It used to be phenomenal, but due to two months of a lull period, the energy died. Maybe the incoming fall college class isn’t aware of its presence. They should be warned. I’m going to work on this, don’t worry.

JayZ was at M2 Friday night holding it down, then he hit 1Oak afterwards

Saturday night a new party started and has been in existence for two weeks. A venue called Roam (19th street btw 5th and Broadway). It is run by Mike Kanevsky and Jay Putera from Climax VIP. I heard it is a good party to check out, however for now I still love Marquee Saturdays…for all you haters out there on Marquee.

Sunday night at Tenjune some of the Royals Baseball players came through. A friend of a friend knew a guy who used to assist in the management of the team, and some of the players wanted to experience NYC nightlife. About seven of them came out and had a great time. They ended up buying 4/5 bottles and dancing up all over the place. Outside Tenjune Sunday night, there was a huge film crew with large trucks for actors to change. The whole Hollywood scene was going on in the streets of meatpacking at 4 am in the morning. I found out it was all for the movie “Wall Street 2” which will star Mike Douglas (again).

Sunday night, Jim Jones was at Suzie Wong. Not that many of you would have liked to be there, but that’s just an FYI.

Monday night, Common had a huge performance at Marquee as an after party for a concert he did yesterday. Estelle and Busta Rhymes were also there. I got there late night at like 3am. Busta was saying goodbye to all his friends and was escorted out with a bodyguard to a mayback motor vehicle. Quite a nice and large car that is!

I noticed that Wass is now at Marquee Mondays and he doesn’t get to work at the higher end Avenue, which is also open on Mondays (he used to run the door there on Mondays.) I imagine that pisses him off. Earlier on Monday, I went to Avenue and some Giants players were there (they were also at Tenjune the night before, Sunday). Not being an avid follower of these sports, I didn’t know their names but heard the DJ giving shout outs, so it was obvious. Brody Jener was also at Avenue Monday

Kiss and Fly was also open on Monday, which is very unexpected. Now so many new spots are opening up Mondays it will be more and more difficult for people to attract people to a certain venue on any given night. I don’t think Kiss and Fly will be open permanently on Monday…it was a one-off event, but the guys that were running it (Alex and Leo) said if it does well, they may try to continue it.

Legendary performances by MR VEGAS and SHAGGY at Greenhouse on Monday. Check out the footage and pics here at the Troy Report.

Pink Elephant Loses Its Name & Celebrity Sightings

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Pink Elephant was apparently off the chain last night - a long line up of celebs there for Sean Pecas’ birthday (he works for Def Jam and is close with JayZ and Fabulous). Other celebs included Mariah Carey, Clive Owen, Fabulous, Rick Ross, Nick Cannon, and a few more. I can’t even imagine how packed the door got. DMX was actually rejected from entry because he showed up with 15 guys.

While I am on this topic, I’d like to explain to you all what happened to Pink Elephant and why it is no longer called Pink Elephant. Pink Elephant is owned by Rocco Ancarola and Robert Montwaid. They had some financial issues and sold the venue Pink Elephant on 27th street to the M2 guys, but didn’t sell the brand. They own “Pink Elephant” – this nightclub has numerous franchises in London and Brazil and other countries. Robert felt the Pink Elephant standard and quality was falling. He wanted to either do something about it (which they didn’t allow) or pullout. He did pullout as you can see (last Friday was the last Pink party. Now, I think it is called Club Kings). Rocco, however, stayed. It’s quite sad because I always found Pink Elephant to have gorgeous women and a good vibe, even on a slow day. Don’t get me wrong…the club is still there, but not with its two, original united leaders working together. I believe Robert is intending to take over Room Service’s space.

At Marquee, Wednesday night there was an unexpected celeb: Ja Rule. Not a huge celeb, but hey, I’m sure some girls around the world would run for his autograph, right? And congrats to Marquee for still being able to bring celebs in. On Monday, the Marquee party is run by a good friend of mine named Ahmad Tahoun. He’s going to have the rapper (or artist I should say) by the name of COMMON to be there. Not sure if he is performing or chilling. We shall see.

At Griffin there was troublemaker and party animal LIL JON. He still looks the same: short, wearing sunglasses in the dark, and escorted by guards. A friend told me he was partying it up, and then I spotted him at 1Oak, once again with guards on either side.

Tonight, Thursday, I will be working Tenjune. Anyone interested, can contact me below. And not this Sunday, but the following, 1Oak will be opening their Sunday party for those of you interested in that.

Riding around the city yesterday I snagged a photo of the new wall design outside Mr West nightclub. Who knows what it will be renamed, but apparently it is supposed to be a gay club. By looking at the photo I might be able to believe that.

Celebrity Guests at Tenjune, Marquee, Small Lounges to Check Out & the Hottest Club Right Now

Nightlife

Celebrity Guests at Tenjune, Marquee, Small Lounges to Check Out & the Hottest Club Right Now
So last night (Tuesday), Sean Kingston was supposed to be performing at Tenjune. So don’t lose faith in Tenjune just because of the owner’s new club project Simyone. Tenjune still has some energy left in it.

Marquee was having a much bigger celebrity. I wanted to tell people early on who it was, but the managers said I couldn’t even hint at it. But let’s see, he plays a sport called “basketball,” he’s the best at it and he isn’t retired, he’s black, a rapper references him in songs, the aforementioned rapper was just on the VMA’s a few Sundays ago and did the finale performance. You do the math.

Guesses? Alternatively you can always just find out during the night. I’ll always keep you posted, just follow me on twitter.com/tnkg

Mary J Blidge, Snapped Outside Marquee

Mary J Blidge, Snapped Outside Marquee

Monday night I spotted model Anthony Gallo and Russell Simmons at Butter. Heard they had quite the good time. Richie Akiva (owner of Butter and 1Oak) is supposed to be celebrating his birthday this week. His colleagues are supposedly in charge of the celebration preparations…so keep your eyes and ears open for a legendary party most likely occurring sometime this week at 1Oak.

Meanwhile, I keep hearing about these smaller lounges that have opened and seem to have everyone buzzing. Su Casa, Cantina Latina, Roam and a bunch of others. Anyone who can tell me if they’re worth checking out, please do. People have asked me to work or set up parties at some of these places, but I have never been to any of them except Cantina Latina (which is very nice I might add). I found out that Shim is running Cantina Latina on Mondays and it apparently is a very very good looking venue. This Monday he did around 150 people. Girls were telling me it has that Socialista vibe. For those of you who don’t know, Socialista was a very exclusive yet different kind of party. Anyway, Shim is partners on 4K Entertainment. They do very good business.

A little information on the hot spot or most exclusive club in NYC right now…well, it’s called Avenue. They run the room differently there. Friends of mine tried to make reservations and were denied. Avenue doesn’t care HOW much money you are willing to spend (to a certain extent). They care more about WHOSE money they are receiving. For example, a gentleman I mentioned before by the name of Jho Lao (anyone correct me on spelling if I am wrong) within two weeks or so spent about 1 million in NYC nightlife. Avenue was one of the clubs he spent in, alongside Kiss and Fly and The Griffin.

Side notes: 1Oak will be running a new party on Sundays as Tenjune has been doing. A good friend of mine named Jimmy will be running the door. Opening night is Sunday Oct 4th

Checking Out Tenjune with Kanye West

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Tenjune is one of those clubs I’ve always resisted getting intimate with, hanging out there a handful of times but always in passing. For some unknown reason, my friends have always framed the idea as:

“Let’s swing by Tenjune,” as opposed to, “Let’s spend the night at Tenjune.”

I wrote about my mild dislike of the place and briefly made fun of their Halloween decorations, only to realize recently that I never really gave this establishment a fair chance. So I set up my Saturday evening with the intention of scoping out this hotspot for real.

I tagged along with a promoter and therefore experienced a stress-free, smooth entry around 12:15 AM. Yes it was mad early, and the inside of the club reflected this. While the dance floor and bar were cluttered with people, the surrounding, elevated VIP section remained void of human activity. This made the club surprisingly comfortable and I relished in the fact that my friends and I could dance without having our noses pressed up into one another’s sweat glands. Sweat was nowhere to be found in fact, since Alaskan-style air blast through the club’s vents at high frequency. I’d recently purchased a fashion statement of a jacket that I enjoyed showing off so didn’t mind, but my heart went out to the sundress-clad ladies suddenly smothered in goosebumps.

The DJ spun everything from rap to Billy Joel to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song to Ministry of Sound in a surprisingly smooth flow. The club’s population count and temperature rose naturally over the next half-hour and it wasn’t until one of my guy friends elbowed me in the ribs while performing a head jerk that I realized the man in the table next to us was Kanye West.

Kanye West!?!?

I’m one of those people who remain stoic and unenthusiastic about celebrity sightings, but Kayne West!?! He’s perhaps the coolest male artist you could see these days, primarily because he invented terms like “go ahead, go nuts, go apeshit,” which my friends and I have adopted in regular speech. So I admit that my excitement went up a notch and I became even more determined to thoroughly enjoy the evening.

About Kanye: He partied with three male members of his entourage and a breathtakingly beautiful Rihanna-looking girl who had the most enviable legs I’ve ever seen. A girlfriend of mine, who follows celebrity stalker publications said that she’d seen pictures of this sizzlin lady with Kanye on his recent beach vacation. Nice!

Kanye himself wore a plain green T-shirt, jeans, crazy cool sneakers that were a hybrid between Nikes and Uggs, and a plain cloth baseball cap worn elevated and twisted to one side. He’s remarkably short. In fact, I’d described him as child size. (Note: Being the only table next to him, we were all expressly asked by management not to take photographs).

Kanye didn’t smoke or drink the entire evening. He did however, look relaxed and like he was having a good time. He alternated between sitting on the banquette focusing on his cell phone and jiving on top of the banquette dancing in small, jerky movements, occasionally pausing to chat with the gorgeous female hottie.

Immediately, my stress-prone brain began to wonder: Kanye’s tunes are such a club staple – How does a DJ best handle the music situation when the artist himself is in the house? Does that mean you play more Kanye songs? Or does it mean to you play none at all?

I pondered this dilemma until the DJ finally bust out “Stronger” and the crowd went wild. I immediately honed in on Kanye eager for some sort of reaction on his part, but got nothing. Throughout the beginning of the song he tapped away on his cell phone, seemingly oblivious, then stood up and enjoyed his music with everyone else.

“Would he sing along?” I wondered. “Or is he so totally sick of hearing his own music that he wants to barf right now?” Again, I observed him like a veteran stalker and didn’t see him mouth any of the words (although his gorgeous lady friend was singing them at the top of her lungs). Later on, the DJ played “The Good Life.” Kanye got a little more into this tune and even sang a tiny bit by the end.

Kanye and his entourage rolled out of the club unusually early and all that was left by 1:45 AM was their empty bottles. Overall, I enjoyed the Tenjune experience, although I don’t know how much of my review is bias since the most famous rapper of the moment was literally 3 feet away.

I do give Tenjune props for keeping their VIP area roomier than other places. If you do decide to invest in a table you’re truly are gaining some privacy and breathing room since a bouncer guards the prive area (unlike Pink Elephant or Kiss and Fly’s elevated areas for example). This surprised me because on previous visits to Tenjune I felt like the club was unbearably crowded. Maybe the weekend party load has been lightened thanks to New Yorkers jetting off to the Hamptons or maybe Tenjune really does deserve props for keeping their club appropriately below capacity. Either way, whatever my previous issue with this locale, it suddenly seemed unimportant.

Another cool feature of note is that the club provided a ‘make your own shot’ service at the tables. They give you many mixers (watermelon, yes!) as well as shot glasses and a shaker. So the wanna-be bartender of your group can cocktail shots all night long for anyone who’s interested. I thought this was a fun feature to what’s otherwise a boring, cookie-cutter table set up.

Who knows? At this rate, I think I’ll be frequenting Tenjune again.
